Officer Assaulted During Arrest in Sloatsburg Incident

Ramapo police officers responded to a call regarding a potentially intoxicated individual involved in a dispute on Orange Turnpike in the Village of Sloatsburg. Upon arrival, the individual was found trespassing on private business property.

As the officer attempted to place the individual under arrest, the situation escalated. The suspect broke free and struck the officer in the face with a closed fist. Despite being assaulted and facing continued resistance—including kicking—the officer maintained control and successfully took the individual into custody.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Sloatsburg resident, was arrested and charged with Attempted Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Trespass. The case will be presented in Sloatsburg Justice Court.

Incidents like these highlight the unpredictable and often dangerous nature of police work. They also underscore the importance of ongoing training and access to modern safety tools—both to protect our officers and ensure the well-being of the community we serve.

We commend our officer for demonstrating professionalism and resilience in a volatile situation. The case is now in the hands of the prosecutors and the court as it moves into the accountability phase of the justice system.

Meanwhile, your Ramapo officers are back out in the community—responding to calls, ensuring public safety, and not looking back.

Thank you to the public for your continued trust and support.

We’ll be there when you need us.
