Ramapo Police Department Respond To Shots Fired – Attempted Murder

On Monday, November 25, 2024, at approximately 12:22 am, the Ramapo Police Department responded to East Eckerson Road in the Town of Ramapo for the report of gunshots fired. Upon the officers arrival, evidence was recovered, indicating that at least 9 shots were fired from a passing vehicle. No victims were reported to have been struck and no one was injured. Through a continuing investigation, 2 suspects were arrested on Monday, November 25, 2024. Those two suspects, both males, aged 22 of Yonkers, N.Y. and aged 19, from Newburgh, N.Y. were charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 1* Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1* Degree and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. They were arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court. The investigation is still ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time. The Ramapo Police Department was assisted on scene by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Spring Valley Double Murder Arrest: Two Charged in 2025 Dutch Lane Shooting

On September 20, 2025, around 5:12 PM, officers from the Spring Valley Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near 2 Dutch Lane. They found a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound and began CPR until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After several months of investigation, on April 16, 2026, police arrested two suspects:

  • Doodly Metellus, 21, of Ramapo
  • Smay Dornaison, 20, of Spring Valley

Metellus was found with a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest. He faces charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Dornaison is also charged with second-degree murder.

Both were arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court and are being held at the Rockland County Jail.

Authorities emphasize that the charges are accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 845-356-7400.

Haverstraw Police Recover Stolen Packages in Ongoing Theft Investigation

The Haverstraw Police Department is actively investigating a series of package thefts reported across multiple buildings within a residential complex in the Village of Haverstraw.

Through the course of the investigation, officers identified a suspect and a residence believed to be connected to the thefts. On April 10, 2026, Haverstraw Police executed a search warrant at the location, where they recovered multiple stolen packages belonging to residents of the complex.

The suspect has been identified as a 35-year-old male from Haverstraw, New York. His name is being withheld at this time, as charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Haverstraw Police Department was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office in the execution of the warrant.
