Clarkstown Sgt. Chris Bax Retires After 21 Years

The Clarkstown Police Department has announced the retirement of Sergeant Chris Bax, marking the conclusion of a distinguished 21-year career in law enforcement.

A third-generation police officer, Bax began his career with the New York City Police Department in 2005 before serving with the Westchester County Police Department. He joined the Clarkstown Police Department in 2008 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2019.

During his tenure with the department, Sgt. Bax served in the Patrol Division while also taking on several specialized training and instructional roles. His assignments included Field Training Officer, Police Mental Health Instructor, Disability Awareness Training Instructor, Crisis Intervention Team Instructor, Project Lifesaver Instructor, and New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Master Instructor.

Throughout his career, Bax played an important role in training fellow officers, advancing crisis intervention and mental health education, and supporting initiatives that strengthened community policing and public safety.

The Clarkstown Police Department thanked Sgt. Bax for his dedication, professionalism, and years of service to the department and the residents of Clarkstown.

His retirement marks the end of more than two decades of public service and a career dedicated to protecting and serving the community.

Stony Point Police Officer Brian Horowitz Retires After 20 Years of Service

The Stony Point Police Department recognizes Officer Brian Horowitz as he retires after 20 years of dedicated service to the department and the North Rockland community.

A lifelong North Rockland resident and North Rockland High School graduate, Brian began his public service career as a paramedic before joining the Stony Point Police Department in July 2006.

Throughout his career, Officer Horowitz served in several roles, including as a member of the department’s Accident Investigation Unit. He also shared his emergency medical and law enforcement experience as an instructor at the Rockland County Police Academy and volunteered with the North Rockland Youth Police Academy, helping inspire the next generation.

Beyond policing, Brian has been a strong supporter of the local community. He founded Hudson River Radio, an online radio station that combines his love of music, broadcasting and community connection. He has also generously supported Stony Point PAL events by providing music and entertainment for families throughout the years.

The Stony Point Police Department thanks Officer Horowitz for his commitment, service and contributions to the community, and wishes him and his family a retirement filled with good health, happiness, travel and new adventures.

Rockland Paramedic Services Adds CYANOKIT to Enhance Emergency Response

Rockland Paramedic Services (RPS) has expanded its advanced life support capabilities by adding CYANOKIT®, a lifesaving antidote used to treat suspected cyanide poisoning caused by smoke inhalation during enclosed-space fires.

The medication allows paramedics to begin treatment before patients reach the hospital, improving emergency care for both residents and firefighters.

While smoke inhalation is often associated with carbon monoxide, modern house fires also produce hydrogen cyanide when synthetic materials such as furniture, plastics and electronics burn. Exposure to both toxins can quickly become life-threatening if left untreated.

Studies have found cyanide poisoning in about half of enclosed-space fire survivors and nearly 60% of fire-related fatalities, highlighting the importance of rapid treatment.

RPS has placed 14 CYANOKITs throughout its fleet, ensuring the antidote is readily available across Rockland County. The investment reflects the agency’s ongoing commitment to providing advanced, evidence-based emergency medical care for the community and its first responders.
