The running track at Clarkstown High School South to be named in recognition of Coach Ray Kondracki.

The Board of Education will make a motion at the May 9 meeting to accept a resolution naming the surface Kondracki Track to recognize Mr. Kondracki’s 35 years of service as Indoor Track Coach, and 25 years as the Outdoor Track Coach. In addition, Mr. Kondracki has been the coach of the Boys Cross Country Team for 35 years.

As the Outdoor Track Coach since 1984, Ray Kondracki has 154 wins, second all-time in Rockland County and has been named Rockland County Coach of the Year seven times. He has led his team to six county championships, five league championships, four Section I championships, and his 1998 team won the New York State Championship. He has also coached six individual state champions during the Outdoor Track season. He also won six Section I Championships during the Indoor Track season, and has 151 career wins as Boys Cross Country Coach.

“Over the course of his 34-year career, Coach Kondracki has accumulated a multitude of championships and received countless personal and team awards,” said Dr. Chris Serra, Clarkstown Central School District Athletic Director. “In as much as these accomplishments exceed that of many other high school coaches in the sports of track and field and cross country throughout our state, more impressive are the number of athletes Coach Kondracki has been a part of spanning these last three decades. If you were to look across his career, Ray has coached over 1,600 contests supervising 9,000 athletes. I can tell you firsthand that Coach Kondracki focused more of his effort toward turning every one of these 9,000 students into positive, contributing members of society than worrying about trophies.”

The Board of Education meeting on May 9 will begin at 8 p.m., and the recognition section of the meeting for Coach Kondracki will take place shortly after the start of the meeting.

A familiar name from Pearl River is making his mark on Broadway.

Drew Fortescue, a Pearl River native and New York Rangers defenseman, scored his first goal for the Blueshirts in a preseason matchup against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.

Fortescue’s goal came midway through the third period, tying the game at 2-2. The young defenseman gathered a rebound and fired a shot past Devils goaltender Nicolas Daws to give the Rangers a much-needed spark.

The Devils ultimately came away with a 3-2 victory, with Jack Hughes scoring the game-winning goal late in the third period. Fortescue’s goal nevertheless provided a memorable moment for the Pearl River community and the Rangers prospect.

From Pearl River to Broadway

Fortescue’s journey to the Rangers has been closely followed by hockey fans throughout Rockland County.

The 6-foot-2 defenseman was selected by New York in the third round, 90th overall, of the 2023 NHL Draft. He played three seasons at Boston College before signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Rangers in March 2026.

At Boston College, Fortescue appeared in 112 games over three seasons, recording eight goals and 25 assists. He also represented the United States internationally at the World Junior Championship and helped Team USA win gold at the tournament.

Fortescue made his NHL debut during the 2025-26 season and appeared in nine games, recording two assists. His development has continued to draw attention as he competes for a larger role with the Rangers.

For fans back home in Pearl River, seeing a local player find the back of the net wearing the Rangers sweater makes the moment even more special.

A Super Bowl Champion Brings His Experience to Tappan Zee High School

The Tappan Zee High School football team got a special visitor at practice when former New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw stopped by to spend time with the players and coaches.

For the young athletes, it was more than a visit from a former NFL player. Bradshaw is a two-time Super Bowl champion who helped the Giants capture Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.

Bradshaw’s presence gave players an opportunity to meet someone who experienced the highs and challenges of playing football at the highest level. His journey from high school football to the NFL serves as a reminder that hard work, preparation and perseverance can open doors far beyond the football field.

During his career with the Giants, Bradshaw became known for his tough, physical running style and ability to make big plays. He played an important role on two championship teams and remains a familiar and respected figure among Giants fans.

For Tappan Zee’s players, however, the most meaningful part of the visit may have been the chance to hear from someone who has been where they hope to go.

High school football is about much more than Friday-night games. It is about learning how to work together, overcoming adversity and developing the discipline that can carry young people into whatever comes next.

Having a two-time Super Bowl champion walk onto the practice field brought those lessons to life.

For the Tappan Zee football family, Bradshaw’s visit was a memorable reminder that the football community stretches well beyond the lines of the field—and that sometimes, a little inspiration from a champion can make a lasting impression.
