“Leandra’s Law” DWI Arrest
Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco announces the May 10, 2019 arrest of Esteves, Moises G, age 36 of Haverstraw, NY.
While working as a driver for America Latina Taxi of Spring Valley, Mr. Esteves was stopped by a Rockland County Sheriff’s Patrol Officer for having a suspended vehicle registration on Pomona Road in the town of Ramapo at approximately 0912 hrs. Upon interviewing Mr. Esteves, he was deemed to be in an intoxicated state. In his vehicle were two 11 year old children.
Mr. Esteves was placed under arrest and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, with children in the vehicle (Felony), as well as Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st (Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (Misdemeanor), Endangering The Welfare Of A Child (Misdemeanor) and Operating A Vehicle With A Suspended Registration.
Moises Esteves was arraigned at Town of Ramapo Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail on $7,500 bail with a return court date of May 14th at 1:00 PM.
* Leandra’s Law is a New York State law making it an automatic felony on the first offense to drive drunk with a person age 15 or younger inside the vehicle, and setting the blood alcohol content, or BAC, at 0.08.
