Authorities have identified and charged a suspect in connection with an incident in which a police officer was struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop in the Village of Haverstraw.
According to the Town of Haverstraw Police Department, Peter Theus, 34, of Spring Valley, has been charged with second-degree assault, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
Police said Theus was arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail set at $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond, or $300,000 partially secured bond.
The charges stem from a traffic stop incident in which an officer was struck by a fleeing vehicle. The injured officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials emphasized that the charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Three Rockland County men were arrested early Sunday after Haverstraw police allegedly recovered a loaded firearm during a traffic stop in the Village of West Haverstraw.
According to the Haverstraw Police Department, officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 9W at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, after observing a traffic violation.
During the investigation, officers allegedly discovered that the vehicle’s three occupants were in illegal possession of a loaded firearm. The occupants were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for further investigation.
Police identified the suspects as Tyler Riddle, 22, of Garnerville; Jaydan Lagredelle, 24, of Nanuet; and Daniel Lans, 23, of Spring Valley.
Each was charged with:
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony;
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Ammunition Feeding Device), a Class D felony; and
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
The three defendants were arraigned in the Village of West Haverstraw Justice Court and released on their own recognizance pending future court proceedings.
The Haverstraw Police Department said the investigation was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Five people have been arrested following a multiagency Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) operation targeting individuals accused of attempting to sexually exploit minors online, the New York State Police announced.
The investigation, conducted over several days in June, used undercover investigators and cyber investigative techniques to identify suspects who allegedly communicated online with individuals they believed were children and attempted to arrange in-person meetings for illegal sexual activity.
The operation involved the New York State Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Ramapo Police Department, Rockland County Intelligence Center, FBI Rye Safe Streets Task Force, and New York State Intelligence Center.
Authorities said the suspects face felony and misdemeanor charges, and investigators are continuing to review digital evidence for possible additional victims or offenses.
Officials credited the coordinated effort among law enforcement agencies for helping identify and arrest individuals before they could harm children, emphasizing that protecting children remains a top priority.
