BREAKING: Barricaded Subject Incident in Suffern’s Knolls Area; SWAT and Multiple Agencies Respond, Residents Told to Shelter in Place

Suffern, NY — A heavy police presence, including the Suffern Police Department, Rockland County REACT (SWAT), and other law enforcement agencies, is currently responding to a barricaded subject incident in the Knolls at Ramapough housing development.

According to Mayor Curley, a young male is barricaded alone in a room of his home on Kensico Court. No one else is inside. The area has been secured, and authorities are working to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

📢 Public Instructions:

  • Residents of the Knolls: Follow all police instructions. You may be allowed to enter your neighborhood.

  • Residents of Kensico Court: If you are home, stay inside your unit. If you are not home, stay away from the area.

  • All others: Shelter in place and avoid the area entirely until further notice.

The Mayor emphasized the top priority is the safety of the individual, residents, and officers. Additional agencies have been called in to ensure the situation remains under control.

Haverstraw Police Recover Stolen Packages in Ongoing Theft Investigation

The Haverstraw Police Department is actively investigating a series of package thefts reported across multiple buildings within a residential complex in the Village of Haverstraw.

Through the course of the investigation, officers identified a suspect and a residence believed to be connected to the thefts. On April 10, 2026, Haverstraw Police executed a search warrant at the location, where they recovered multiple stolen packages belonging to residents of the complex.

The suspect has been identified as a 35-year-old male from Haverstraw, New York. His name is being withheld at this time, as charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Haverstraw Police Department was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office in the execution of the warrant.

UPDATE: Ramapo DWI Arrest – Driver Charged Under Leandra’s Law After Attempted Escape

Incident Update:

The defendant was arraigned before the Village of Airmont Justice at 11:30 a.m. and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Airmont Court on April 16, 2026.

Updated Charges:

The driver, a 24-year-old resident of Montebello, has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). It was determined that the passenger in the vehicle was only 15 years old, resulting in an additional charge under Leandra’s Law.

The defendant also faces the following charges:
• Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle (license suspended six times on two separate dates)
• Obstructing Governmental Administration
• Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Original Incident:

A proactive Ramapo police officer observed two individuals passed out inside a taxi at a shopping center on Route 59 and Brookside Avenue.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver suddenly put the taxi in drive and attempted to flee, driving over a curb toward the state highway. The officer quickly intervened and brought the situation under control despite resistance. Additional units responded to assist.

This incident highlights the vigilance and swift response of Ramapo officers in protecting the community.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
