BREAKING: Barricaded Subject Incident in Suffern’s Knolls Area; SWAT and Multiple Agencies Respond, Residents Told to Shelter in Place

Suffern, NY — A heavy police presence, including the Suffern Police Department, Rockland County REACT (SWAT), and other law enforcement agencies, is currently responding to a barricaded subject incident in the Knolls at Ramapough housing development.

According to Mayor Curley, a young male is barricaded alone in a room of his home on Kensico Court. No one else is inside. The area has been secured, and authorities are working to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

📢 Public Instructions:

  • Residents of the Knolls: Follow all police instructions. You may be allowed to enter your neighborhood.

  • Residents of Kensico Court: If you are home, stay inside your unit. If you are not home, stay away from the area.

  • All others: Shelter in place and avoid the area entirely until further notice.

The Mayor emphasized the top priority is the safety of the individual, residents, and officers. Additional agencies have been called in to ensure the situation remains under control.

UPDATE: Thomas David Ryan Taken Into Custody, Search Concludes

New York State Police announced Sunday that Thomas David Ryan has been taken into custody, bringing an active search in the Gilboa area of Schoharie County to an end.

Police said the search has concluded and thanked members of the public and law enforcement partners for their assistance during the investigation.

Additional information about Ryan’s arrest and the underlying investigation will be released by New York State Police when it becomes available.

NYSP Updates Search for Thomas Ryan in Orange County Homicide

New York State Police have issued an updated statement regarding the ongoing search for Thomas David Ryan, who investigators are seeking in connection with a homicide in the Town of Greenville.

Captain Brad Natalizio of the New York State Police Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation provided the latest information as authorities continue efforts to locate Ryan.

Police are urging members of the public to use caution and not approach Ryan if they encounter him. Anyone who comes into contact with Ryan is asked to call 911 immediately.

Investigators are also asking anyone with information about Ryan’s whereabouts to contact the Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.

New York State Police previously identified Ryan, 32, as being sought in connection with a homicide that occurred on August 6, 2026, on Greenville Turnpike in the Town of Greenville, Orange County. Police have said Ryan is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Authorities previously reported that Ryan may be operating a 2016 gray Toyota Prius bearing New York license plate HNH-7671 and was last seen in the Greenville Turnpike area wearing black sweatpants and a black T-shirt.

The investigation remains active, and police are asking anyone with relevant information to contact investigators rather than attempting to intervene themselves.
