SPRING VALLEY, NY – Evelyn Stewart of Spring Valley, New York celebrated her 101st birthday on Friday. She was joined by Rockland County Legislators Aney Paul and Toney Earl, and head of the Spring Valley NAACP Wille Trotman. When Stewart turned 98, her Birthday dance would go viral with more than a million views on various social media platforms.

Evelyn is an active member of her Senior Club that meets weekly in New Hempstead. If you know Evelyn, you know she is still breaking it down with some of her favorite dance moves.

In 2004 she witnessed a tragic event in which 10 horses were killed in a Barn Fire. The fire began about 1:23 a.m. at Shamrock Farms, a privately owned seven-acre horse stable on Ackertown Road. The NY Times covered the fire and interviewed Evelyn.

Neighbors told of seeing 40-foot orange flames flaring into the night sky when the fire broke out.

Evelyn Stewart, 88, said the scene looked like, “the whole sky was full of flames, I said, ‘Oh that’s scary.’ ”

National Puppy Day March 23rd Love. Rescue. Adopt.

Published

on

Each year on March 23rd, National Puppy Day celebrates the unconditional love, affection and joy puppies bring to our lives. Their hugs, tugs and wiggles make us smile and without a doubt there is nothing but delight when there are puppies around!

This day also brings awareness to the need for care of and homes for orphaned pups as well as to educate people about the horrors of puppy mills across the country. Puppies are a huge responsibility. Remember to consider everything involved and adopt from a shelter. The puppies there need love and a home just as much as any other and they become loyal pets, too!

According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. Some of these dogs come with litters of puppies. If you’re seeking a puppy to start your furry family, check the shelters first. When these abandoned and abused animals find their way to a shelter, each one needs a forever home and their potential is limitless.

Use #NationalPuppyDay and post photos of your puppy on social media.
