ALBANY, NY – Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation on Tuesday that raises the age to buy both tobacco and e-cigarettes products. The law will go in effect in 120 days – November 13.
Governor Cuomo said “around 28,000 adult New Yorkers die every year from smoking. They say they expect this will help prevent underage kids from getting tobacco from friends – and hopefully save thousands of lives.”
State Senator David Carlucci co-sponsored the legislation (S.2833.) that was signed into law. “Proud to have voted in support of raising the age to 21 to purchase tobacco and vape products across New York State. We know tobacco products cause cancer and cigarette smoking leads to nearly 1 in 5 deaths each year. We cannot let our children become statistics. Thank you Governor Cuomo for signing this important legislation into law.” said Senator Carlucci.
In Rockland County, the Rockland County legislature passed legislation in 2018 raising the smoking age to 21.
SUFFERN, NY – Senator Bill Weber will be holding a Senior Fair at the RCC Fieldhouse. It’s an excellent opportunity for Rockland County seniors to interact with dozens of vendors who offer many benefits for our senior population.
