NYPD Officers Who Arrested Man Charged In Monsey Stabbing Attack To Be Honored By Legislature

NEW CITY, NY – New York City Police Officers Russell Mattera and David Radziwon will be recognized be the Rockland County Legislature for their work in apprehending the person who allegedly carried out the machete attack on Hanukkah celebrants in Monsey (Rockland County), New York.

Each officer will be presented with a Distinguished Service Award, the Legislature’s highest honor. Yosef Gluck, who fought with the attacker, then ran after him and got his license plate, is also confirmed to attend.

The ceremony will be held on Tuesday (January 21) at 11 am at the Allison-Parris County Office Building in New City, N.Y.

Elected officials slated to be in attendance:

Rockland County Legislature Public Safety Committee Chair Aron Wieder, Rockland County Legislature Chair Alden H. Wolfe, Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh, Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht, Ramapo Police Chief Brad Weidel, Stony Point Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan, Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann, Orangetown Deputy Town Supervisor Michael Lawler, and other local officials will formally recognize the officers.

The attack has sent shockwaves around the world and the impact has been particularly hard-hitting in Monsey and the rest of Rockland County, which is home to a large Jewish population. Federal prosecutors say the alleged attacker was motivated by hatred toward Jews.
