NANUET, NY — The longtime Barnes & Noble bookstore in Nanuet has officially closed after 33 years in operation, marking the end of an era for local book lovers.

The store’s final day of business was January 18, 2026, concluding more than three decades as a cornerstone of the Rockland County retail and literary community.

For generations of residents, the Nanuet Barnes & Noble served as more than just a bookstore. It was a gathering place for students, families, educators, and readers of all ages — a destination for discovering new books, attending author events, studying, and spending quiet afternoons browsing the shelves.

The closure reflects broader changes in the book retail industry, as consumer habits increasingly shift toward online shopping and digital reading platforms. Still, the loss of the physical store has been met with disappointment and nostalgia from longtime customers who grew up visiting the location.

As the doors close for good, the Nanuet Barnes & Noble leaves behind a legacy of fostering a love of reading and serving as a community hub for Rockland County for more than three decades.
