Pedestrian Killed in Orangeburg Crash Involving Off-Duty NYPD Officer

ORANGEBURG — A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle in Orangeburg, according to the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

Officials said the crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Route 303 and involved an off-duty New York City Police Department officer. The pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old William Huertas of Haverstraw, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the officer involved has not been released. Authorities have not yet provided details on whether any charges are pending or the circumstances leading up to the crash.

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident, as is standard procedure when a law enforcement officer is involved in a fatal crash.

No additional information has been released at this time.

Emergency Rescue Truck Crashes Into West Haverstraw Home After Route 9W Collision

An emergency rescue truck responding to a reported boating accident crashed into an occupied home in West Haverstraw shortly after midnight after colliding with a Jeep on Route 9W, according to police.

A family, including young children, was inside the home at the time of the crash. Several first responders, the Jeep’s 17-year-old driver, and one resident were transported to area hospitals with injuries. Authorities said all are expected to recover.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
