Cold Moon to Light Up Rockland County Skies on December 4 — Best Time to Watch
Published
2 days agoon
December 3, 2025
Rockland County residents will be treated to the final full moon of 2025 on Thursday, December 4, when the Cold Moon rises in the northeastern sky. The moon will reach peak illumination around 7:30 p.m. EST, offering bright, clear views throughout the evening.
The Cold Moon is the traditional name for December’s full moon, marking the long, chilly nights that settle over the region as winter approaches. Its high path across the sky makes it appear especially bright against the crisp December air.
Local astronomers recommend viewing the moon from open, darker locations such as the Hudson River waterfront, county parks, or elevated spots in Ramapo and Clarkstown. While no equipment is required, binoculars can enhance the view of lunar craters and surface features.
The Cold Moon closes out the year’s lunar cycle and caps a month of notable sky events. For many in Rockland County, it offers a simple and striking way to welcome the winter season.
