Ramapo and Spring Valley Officers Continue Police Unity Tour Despite COVID-19

NEW CITY, NY – Every year, Officers from around the nation participate in the Police Unity Tour. The mission of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. Police Officer ride their bicycles from NJ to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. Over 2500 bicyclists participate in this event.

This year, the ride was cancelled due to COVID 19. However, that did not stop Detective Fitzgerald and Detective Braddock of the Ramapo PBA and Detective Sgt.Lopez of the Spring Valley PBA from continuing their efforts in honoring all of the “Fallen Heroes.The three rode from Ramapo PD to Spring Valley PD and ended at the Police Memorial in New City NY. The Officers placed flowers at the memorial located in New City in memory of the fallen Officers.

Clarkstown Police Department Temporary Road Closure April 22-April 25th Valley Cottage

Gilchrest Rd will be temporarily closed beginning, Monday, April 22 to Thursday, April 25, at the railroad crossing between Stern Place and Sasson Terrace in Valley Cottage. This closure is due to construction upgrades being performed by CSX. Please follow the posted detours provided by CSX.

Update From The Clarkstown Police Department

Recently, a resident posted this picture of a large black rat snake at Congers Lake. Town staff was sent to identify and locate it and the photo was sent to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation experts who identified it as an extremely large native black rat snake. According to the DEC these snakes average three to five feet but can grow to as large as eight feet. It is not venomous and poses NO harm to people. It is prime season to see them as they emerge from hibernation and the temperature is still cool out. They feed on mice, voles, small birds and eggs etc.
If you see this snake or others like it just give it space, they will be slower this time of year due to weather and will pose no harm to any residents. If you see a snake like this at Congers Lake realize that is its natural habitat and please give it space.
