Ramapo PD Makes Arrest Following Larceny at Mechanic Shop in Airmont

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY – On February 14, 2024, Ramapo Police detectives were assigned to investigate a stolen vehicle from a mechanic shop located in the Village of Airmont. The victim reported that the 2021 Nissan was removed from the parking lot unlawfully.

Through investigative work, detectives were able to identify the suspect and link the 23-year-old male to another larceny that occurred at Walmart in Suffern several hours earlier. On February 15th, the above suspect was arrested by the NYPD while still in possession of the stolen vehicle.

Ramapo Detectives took custody of the above male on the open charges and the vehicle was returned to the owner. The charges against the suspect included Grand Larceny 3rd Degree (Felony), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, (Misd.) and Petit Larceny (Misd.).

The suspect was arraigned and issued an Appearance Ticket pending a future court appearance.

Haverstraw Man Arrested In Connection With West Haverstraw Business Burglary

The Haverstraw Police Department announces the arrest of Brawian Olivero Duran (22) of Haverstraw, New York in connection with a burglary of a West Haverstraw business that occurred in August 2024.
The defendant was charged with burglary 3rd degree (Class D Felony), grand larceny 3rd degree (Class D Felony), and criminal mischief 3rd degree (Class E Felony).
It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

RPD Is Asking For The Publics Help With Any Information In A Cold Case Homicide

The Town of Ramapo Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance with the investigation of a cold case homicide.
On September 28, 1977, Helen Soudani was murdered at a family run restaurant called Aegean Grotto which was located in the Ramapo Shopping Center at Route 59 near the former Shop Rite Supermarket.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Soudani was the mother of several young children. She was found deceased inside the restaurant by an employee at about 2:20 am. The death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation (strangulation).
