Airmont, N.Y. — Ramapo Police are reminding motorists about the dangers of impaired driving after a two-part crash on Route 59 last night led to multiple injuries and a DWI arrest.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on November 3, 2025, near 100 Route 59 in Airmont. According to police, officers arrived on scene to find two separate collisions that occurred within moments of each other.

In the first crash, a 2022 Subaru Legacy, driven by a 41-year-old man from Elmwood Park, New Jersey, was exiting a parking lot when it struck a 2023 Ford Bronco traveling westbound on Route 59. The Bronco, operated by a 54-year-old woman from Mendham, New Jersey, became disabled in the roadway after the impact.

Shortly afterward, a 2008 Honda Civic, driven by a 45-year-old man from New City, New York, attempted to pass vehicles that had stopped due to the initial collision. The Civic struck the disabled Bronco and also hit a 51-year-old male bystander from Airmont who was assisting the Bronco’s occupants at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Bronco and her 90-year-old male passenger were transported to Nyack Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bystander was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment, and the driver of the Honda Civic was also transported to Nyack Hospital, where he was issued a citation for improper passing.

Police arrested the Subaru driver for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) under Sections 1192.2 and 1192.3, and for Aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content above 0.18%. He was processed at the Ramapo Police Department.

Due to the crashes and the extensive investigation required, Route 59 was closed in both directions for a period of time.

Officials say this incident serves as another reminder of the risks of impaired driving. Ramapo Police have already made more than 230 DWI-related arrests this year, yet motorists continue to make reckless decisions that endanger others.

“Our officers work tirelessly to keep the roads safe, but incidents like this show how quickly impaired driving can put lives at risk,” police said in a statement.
