Rockland County Watchfires to Honor America’s Fallen Heroes Set for May 29

Beginning at midnight on May 29, ceremonial watchfires will be lit across Rockland County and will burn continuously for 24 hours in honor of America’s fallen service members.

Organized by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 333, the annual tradition serves as a solemn tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the respectful retirement of worn and unserviceable American flags. Flags may be dropped off at any watchfire location, and pickup arrangements are also available.

Throughout the vigil, veterans will stand watch in rotating shifts beside the fires, continuing a long-standing Memorial Day tradition observed throughout the county.

The four official Watchfire locations are:

Piermont Pier
Bowline Point Park
Eugene Levy Memorial Park

Residents are invited to visit at any time during the 24-hour vigil to pay their respects, honor the fallen, and support the local veterans helping preserve this meaningful Memorial Day tradition.

Celebrating its fifth year, this popular community event is getting bigger, with the festivities expanding to a second block this year.

The event will stretch from Depew to the gas station, creating additional space for vendors and entertainment. Organizers say 45 vendors are expected, along with street performers, circus sideshows, live music, a DJ, drumming and more throughout the event.

One tradition will remain in place: the Tarot salon inside Modern Druid, which will be open throughout the evening.

Organizers are encouraging the community to come out, support local vendors and performers, and help make this year’s celebration the biggest and most fun yet.

Bring your friends, spread the word and come enjoy an evening of music, entertainment, shopping and community.

For five generations, the Davies family has been farming the land at Dr. Davies Farm in Congers — growing produce, welcoming visitors and creating memories that have become part of the community’s fall tradition.

As autumn arrives, the farm once again invites families to enjoy a day filled with classic fall activities, from apple picking and pumpkin picking to hayrides and navigating the corn maze.

Apple picking is available every day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, visitors can also enjoy hayrides, pumpkin picking, the corn maze and fresh apple cider donuts.

For those looking to extend their visit, Red Barn Cidery offers live music and food trucks every Thursday through Sunday, making it possible to turn a trip to the farm into a full fall outing.

The farm also welcomes organized groups during the week. Special weekday rates are available Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for schools, senior groups and adult daycare programs.

After five generations of farming the land, the Davies family says one of the most rewarding parts of the season is seeing families return year after year — while watching new generations create their own memories.
