Published

on

Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann reported that as of 9:45 p.m., Aug. 7, 2026 — Nearly 1,000 customers in the Town of Clarkstown remain without power as heavy weather caused widespread outages, flooding and downed trees across the area.

According to Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., 997 customers were without power in Clarkstown as of 9:45 p.m., while 1,992 customers were without power countywide.

The majority of the Clarkstown outages were reported in West Nyack, including the Palisades Center Mall and much of downtown West Nyack, stretching from Van Houten Fields through the hamlet center and toward the library. Additional outages were reported in Central Nyack and Nanuet.

O&R has deployed additional crews to assist with restoration efforts. Officials said more than 500 customers had their power restored during the previous 20 minutes, indicating steady progress.

Flooding Forces Multiple Road Closures

Flooding has also forced the closure of several major roads throughout Clarkstown and surrounding areas.

The following roads were reported closed due to flooding:

  • Route 59 in West Nyack near the Palisades Center Mall — both directions
  • Route 303 near the Motor Lodge and Bobby Lane
  • Route 59 westbound in Nanuet near Kohl’s and Upper Depew Avenue

Officials also reported approximately a dozen additional roads with trees down, resulting in partial closures. Highway crews have been deployed to clear the affected roadways.

Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads and never attempt to drive through standing or moving water. Conditions can change quickly, and additional closures may occur.
