“Sopranos” prequel filming in Nyack

The ‘Sopranos’ prequel – The Many Saints of Newark were filming scenes for the upcoming movie at the West Gate Inn in Nyack today.

The feature film “The Many Saints of Newark” will recount the origin story of mob boss Tony Soprano, the emotionally complex patriarch of a New Jersey crime family. The film was co-written by “The Sopranos” creator David Chase.

Michael Gandolfini is paying homage to his late father, actor James Gandolfini, in a special way. The 19-year-old is playing the younger version of the iconic TV character his dad made famous – Tony Soprano.

Penguin Rep Theatre is inviting audiences to experience My Lord, What a Night, a powerful drama inspired by the real-life friendship between legendary singer Marian Anderson and renowned physicist Albert Einstein.

The play begins with Anderson being denied accommodations at a hotel because of her race. In an act of kindness and solidarity, Einstein offers her a place to stay, setting the stage for a friendship rooted in a shared love of music, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to human rights.

Featuring a cast of four portraying real-life historical figures, the production explores different perspectives on social change while examining themes of courage, justice, equality, and humanity.

The moving drama highlights the challenges faced during a time of widespread discrimination while celebrating the power of friendship and mutual respect to transcend barriers.

Performances of My Lord, What a Night are scheduled to run through June 7 at Penguin Rep Theatre, offering audiences an opportunity to reflect on an important chapter of American history through live theater.

The production continues Penguin Rep Theatre’s tradition of presenting thought-provoking works that explore meaningful social and historical themes.
