Spring Valley Police Investigating Infant Death at Alleged Illegal Daycare

Spring Valley police are investigating the death of an infant at a residence authorities say may have been operating as an illegal daycare.

According to the Spring Valley Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:39 p.m. on January 22, 2026, to a report of an unresponsive child at 18 White Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult female holding an unresponsive six-month-old infant.

Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated, and the child was transported to a local hospital, where the infant was later pronounced deceased.

Police said eight additional children were found inside the residence and appeared to be in good health. Child Protective Services and the Rockland County Building Department were notified and responded to the scene as part of the investigation.

The incident remains active and under investigation.

Congratulations to the 53rd Graduating Class of the Ramapo Police Youth Academy!

Tonight’s ceremony marked the culmination of weeks of hard work, discipline, teamwork, and dedication. Watching the cadets march onto the field was a proud moment for all involved and a true reflection of the commitment they demonstrated throughout the academy.

A special thank you to the Ramapo Town Board for their continued support of this program, as well as the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Spring Hill Ambulance Corps for their participation in making this program such a success. Your partnership helps provide these young men and women with an unforgettable experience and valuable life lessons.
