Early Monday morning, Ramapo officers responded to a local address in Montebello after receiving a noise complaint. Officers found youth drinking beer and liquor, and about 30-40 of them ran when the cops arrived. Ramapo PD investigated, and about 7-10 youths were returned to their parents.
Strewn about the yard were beer cans, liquor bottles, and beverage boxes. All clear indicators as to what was taking place. A parent of one of the kids was home at the time of this event, and she was charged with several crimes including Criminal Nuisance (maintaining a premise where illegal activity is taking place), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and an Alcohol Beverage Control law violation. She was taken into the station house, printed and photographed, and was released on an appearance ticket for a future court date.
Police officers are mandated reporters and therefore they notified Child Protective Services who may also investigate this incident. Our Town has seen the heartbreaking consequences of alcohol-related tragedies on our roads, some involving local high school children. Our police and the Town stand firm in that if you host an underage drinking party or allow it to take place at your house, and it’s in our police jurisdiction, the Ramapo police will investigate it and arrest you if warranted. We believe that we should all strive to create an environment where our local youth can thrive without the risks associated with underage alcohol consumption.
