CONGERS, NY – Patriotism, remembrance, and community spirit were on full display this past weekend at the Congers VMA Memorial Day Parade, a cherished annual tradition in the Town of Clarkstown. Residents, veterans, local officials, and marching bands came together to honor America’s fallen heroes. Town of Clarkstown George Hoehmann was joined by Rockland County Executive Ed Day, State Senator Bill Weber, Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco, Rockland County Clerk Donna Silberman, Rockland County Legislator William Kennelly, Town of Clarkstown Town Clerk Lauren Marie Wohl, and a representative from Congressman Lawler’s office.

The parade, organized by the Veterans Memorial Association of Congers, featured alineup of local fire departments, scout troops, civic organizations, Clarkstown marching band, and more. Community members lined the streets waving flags and cheering on participants as they marched proudly through the hamlet of Congers.

Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the parade a success. “The Congers VMA Memorial Day Parade is a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women,” he said. “I thank the VMA, our veterans, and all the volunteers who helped honor their legacy with such dignity.”

Apple Picking, Pumpkins and Hayrides: Fall Is Back at Dr. Davies Farm

For five generations, the Davies family has been farming the land at Dr. Davies Farm in Congers — growing produce, welcoming visitors and creating memories that have become part of the community’s fall tradition.

As autumn arrives, the farm once again invites families to enjoy a day filled with classic fall activities, from apple picking and pumpkin picking to hayrides and navigating the corn maze.

Apple picking is available every day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, visitors can also enjoy hayrides, pumpkin picking, the corn maze and fresh apple cider donuts.

For those looking to extend their visit, Red Barn Cidery offers live music and food trucks every Thursday through Sunday, making it possible to turn a trip to the farm into a full fall outing.

The farm also welcomes organized groups during the week. Special weekday rates are available Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for schools, senior groups and adult daycare programs.

After five generations of farming the land, the Davies family says one of the most rewarding parts of the season is seeing families return year after year — while watching new generations create their own memories.

Free Nyack Urban Sketchers Meetup Set for Sept. 8

The Nyack Urban Sketchers will hold their monthly meetup on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Nyack Library’s Creative Lab.

The free gathering will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. and offers participants an opportunity to come together and practice urban sketching in a creative, community setting.

The meetup is open to those interested in sketching and drawing, whether they are longtime urban sketchers or simply looking for a creative activity.
