County Of Rockland Solar Eclipse Viewing Event April 8th

Rockland County Executive Ed Day & Division of Environmental Resources (DER) Coordinator Kevin McGuinness invite the public to attend a Solar Eclipse Viewing event at Haverstraw Bay Park.

A solar eclipse is when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, obscuring the view of sun totally or partially. On Monday April 8th a total solar eclipse will cross North America and New York is one of nearly a dozen states situated within the path to view the “Great American Eclipse,” reaching totality at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Weather permitting, the public is encouraged to watch the Great American Eclipse from Haverstraw Bay Park along with park staff who will be on hand to answer questions and provide free viewing glasses to those who need them. Residents are encouraged to attend and bring blankets and chairs to view the eclipse.

WHEN:  2:30 – 4 p.m., Monday April 8th

WHERE: Haverstraw Bay Park, 21 Gagan Road, Haverstraw NY

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets & chairs, weather permitting.

Welcome to the Dexter Lawrence Celebrity Softball Game Clover Stadium  in Pomona May 18th

The Landon Collins Celebrity Softball Game was the greatest gathering of New York Giants,  former and current, to ever assemble in one place at one time. In 2019, the last time the event  was held, Dexter Lawrence was a rookie for the New York Giants. Not only did he play in the  games, Dex went into the crowd and signed countless autographs. He remarked, “This was one  the best events I’ve ever been to.” 

                                               Now five years later, he is the host. 

Welcome to the Dexter Lawrence Celebrity Softball Game, coming to you from Clover Stadium  in Pomona, New York, May 18, 2024. We have Brandon Jacobs and his Superbowl 42 and 46  winning teammates taking on Dexter Lawrence and the current New York Giants in a game of  dodgeball, home run derby, and softball.

Mother’s Day Is A Holiday Honoring Motherhood That Is Observed In Different Forms Throughout The World.

The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day traditionally involves presenting moms with flowers, cards and other gifts.

By 1912 many states, towns and churches had adopted Mother’s Day as an annual holiday, and Jarvis had established the Mother’s Day International Association to help promote her cause. Her persistence paid off in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
