HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. — The Haverstraw Police Department has arrested a local man following an investigation into a recent pattern of larcenies from unlocked vehicles throughout the Village of Haverstraw, authorities said.

According to police, investigators had identified a suspect connected to multiple thefts and began canvassing the area in an effort to locate him. On Thursday, November 20, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m., plainclothes officers spotted the individual walking along a village roadway.

Officers coordinated with department UAV drone operators, who monitored the suspect from above with the hope that he might lead police to stolen property. Police say the man eventually entered a vacant building in the village, prompting ground units to move in. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

After obtaining a search warrant for the building, officers recovered a significant amount of stolen property tied to previously reported larcenies, according to the department.

Police identified the suspect as Wellington Remigio, 37, of Haverstraw. He was transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for processing and questioning.

Remigio has been charged with:

  • Forgery 2nd Degree (Class D felony)

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree (Class A misdemeanor)

  • Sixteen counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree (Class E felony)

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible as more property is identified and linked to reported thefts.

Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and report any suspicious activity. Anyone who believes they may have had items stolen recently is asked to contact the Haverstraw Police Department at 845-354-1500.

A 31-year-old Monsey man was arrested after an incident at a 7-Eleven on College Road escalated from a disorderly conduct complaint into an alleged attempted assault on a police officer, according to the Ramapo Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the convenience store at approximately 8:45 p.m. following reports of an intoxicated and disorderly man inside the business. Upon arrival, officers recognized the suspect from previous incidents at the location and noted that he had previously been issued a trespass warning for the store.

During their investigation, officers learned the suspect had allegedly slapped a 15-year-old male while inside the store.

Authorities said the situation quickly intensified while officers were handling the incident. According to police, the suspect suddenly swung at the back of an officer’s head during the investigation. A backup officer intervened before the punch connected, helping officers bring the suspect under control without injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with attempted assault in the third degree, endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and trespass.

Police said the suspect was processed and later released to a responsible party.

No injuries were reported among officers, civilians, or the suspect.

In a statement following the incident, the Ramapo Police Department said the case serves as a reminder that even seemingly routine calls can escalate rapidly and unpredictably.
