Pearl River High School Football Player Dies in Car Crash

PEARL RIVER, NY – Orangetown Police are investigating a car crash that killed a 18-year-old Pearl River High School Senior.

The Orangetown Police Department have released the identify of the Pearl River 18-year-old was who tragically killed as Altin Nezaj. The Football Team held a vigil tonight (Sunday) for Nezaj.

Sanhia Ceckia, 15 of Brooklyn, NY was air lifted to the Westchester hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Update via Orangetown Police Department (11:00 pm)-

On Sunday a vehicle with passengers inside fell off an overpass and crashed onto train tracks before bursting into flames in Pearl River.

News 12 Reporting –

Three passengers were in the vehicle when it fell from Route 304 and overturned onto the New Jersey Transit rail tracks below in Pearl River, local authorities said.

Clarkstown Police Department Temporary Road Closure April 22-April 25th Valley Cottage

Gilchrest Rd will be temporarily closed beginning, Monday, April 22 to Thursday, April 25, at the railroad crossing between Stern Place and Sasson Terrace in Valley Cottage. This closure is due to construction upgrades being performed by CSX. Please follow the posted detours provided by CSX.

Update From The Clarkstown Police Department

Recently, a resident posted this picture of a large black rat snake at Congers Lake. Town staff was sent to identify and locate it and the photo was sent to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation experts who identified it as an extremely large native black rat snake. According to the DEC these snakes average three to five feet but can grow to as large as eight feet. It is not venomous and poses NO harm to people. It is prime season to see them as they emerge from hibernation and the temperature is still cool out. They feed on mice, voles, small birds and eggs etc.
If you see this snake or others like it just give it space, they will be slower this time of year due to weather and will pose no harm to any residents. If you see a snake like this at Congers Lake realize that is its natural habitat and please give it space.
