NEW CITY, NY – Authorities say a suspicious package that brought out the Rockland County Sheriff’s bomb squad to New Hempstead Road in New City turned out to be a persons luggage.

Pete Walker of the Clarkstown Police Department said that on Monday authorities were called regarding a suspicious package that was left in the bus terminal for an extended period of time.

Bomb technicians were called to the scene to investigate the contents within the package, which was later determined not to be a threat. On scene were the Clarkstown Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.

No arrests or damages were reported from the incident.

A message from George Hoehmann, Clarkstown Supervisor. “Great job today by our volunteer firefighters who saved this house Saturday morning. Around 10:30AM New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 was dispatched to Scott Drive in New City for a house fire. Working quickly they prevented the fire from spreading and saved the house. Special thanks to the West Nyack Fire Engine Company, Central Nyack Fire Department, Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 for mutual aid and standing by. Thanks also to the Clarkstown Police Department, New City Ambulance Corps, Rockland Paramedic Services, and our Town of Clarkstown fire inspectors who all responded. I stopped by briefly to thank our volunteers and check on the family who were unhurt but displaced due to the damage. We are so grateful for all of our first responders our firefighters who serve with bravery by putting themselves in harms way. THANK YOU!!”
