The Town of Ramapo Police Department has announced the promotion of Officer John Genito to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Genito joined the Ramapo Police Department in August 2018 and has served in a variety of roles throughout his career. He began as a Patrol Officer and later became a Field Training Officer before being assigned to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force in 2026, where he investigated narcotics-related offenses throughout Rockland County.

A strong advocate for professional development, Genito earned a Master of Administrative Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from Pace University.

In addition to his patrol and investigative work, Sergeant Genito has served the department in numerous specialized capacities, including as a Drug Recognition Expert, Social Media Editor, Firearms Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, and instructor at the Rockland County Police Academy.

He is also a member of the Rockland County Rescue Entry and Counter Terrorism (REACT) Team and remains actively involved in mentoring future law enforcement professionals through the Ramapo Police Department’s Youth Academy and Internship Program—programs in which he once participated as a student.
