Clarkstown Officials Announce Passing of Shirley Thormann, Longtime Former Chairwoman of Planning Board

Published

NEW CITY, NY – Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann announced the passing of longtime former Chairwoman of the Clarkstown Planning Board Shirley Thormann.

Hoehmann posted the following on Facebook:

I learned this morning of the death of Shirley Thormann, former Chairwoman of the Clarkstown Planning Board.

Shirley was a mentor to me and many others. I came to know her in 2001 and we became fast friends. While we were from different political parties, we shared a belief in good government and proper planning and worked closely together. We were on the Citizens Advisory Board for Housing in 2002 and on the Planning Board together for five years.

Shirley’s impact on our Town is large, with her advocacy for Senior Housing and proper planning. The award winning Comprehensive Plan is a tribute to her leadership as Chairwoman.  Moreover, Shirley was a dear friend, a trusted mentor and I dare say, somebody who was instrumental in my own life as a public servant.

I am deeply blessed to have known her and offer my condolences to her family. Clarkstown is better for her service and a bit diminished with her passing.

This program helps reduce misunderstandings, lowers anxiety, and fosters a more empathetic and safer environment for everyone. 💙
How to Get a Blue Envelope:
Reach out to autism advocacy organizations in your area or your local sheriff’s office to obtain one. Together, we can promote understanding and safety on the road!
