RAMAPO, NY – Shocking video shows a quick thinking heroic driver potentially saving a young students life exiting a bus in Monsey.

The student is caught on dash cam exiting the bus with his brother. Due to the snowstorm, the younger brother has trouble getting over the snow embankment on the sidewalk. The bus driver proceeds to drive away from the student leaving him exposed in the street. The driver, whose dash cam captures the entire incident drives into oncoming traffic shielding the young boy from traffic. He then proceeds to assist the boy onto the sidewalk.

We are working to identify the driver and give him the recognition he deserves. His actions on that day potentially saved the life of a young boy while putting himself at risk.

This incident occurred on Main Street and Orchard Street in Monsey, New York on Friday, December 18, 2020 at approximately 2 pm.

Officially known as Washington’s Birthday, the holiday was originally meant to honor the country’s first president, George Washington. Eventually, the holiday included Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is Feb. 12. Presidents Day is observed on the third Monday of February each year.

According to the then-used Julian calendar, Washington was born in Virginia on Feb. 11, 1731. In 1752 Britain and its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar, which moved his birthday a year and 11 days to Feb. 22, 1732.

During the American Revolution, George Washington stayed at the DeWint House in Tappan. The DeWint House is the oldest surviving building in Rockland County. George Washington also camped out at Washington’s Encampment in West Nyack on Strawtown Road.
