NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones Announces Over $1.1 Million Raised in Campaign

Published

NYACK, NY — Mondaire Jones, Democratic candidate for New York’s 17th Congressional District (Rockland & Westchester Counties), today announced his campaign raised over $294,000 for the pre-primary FEC fundraising deadline, totalling over $1,121,000 raised in his campaign as of Wednesday, June 3rd. This total does not include the surge of contributions the campaign received after being endorsed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday, June 5th and Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday, June 9th. His campaign has also been endorsed by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Julián Castro, Representative Ayanna Pressley, Representative Pramila Jayapal, the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, Working Families Party, United Auto Workers, and numerous other progressive organizations and local elected leaders in Rockland and Westchester Counties.

Pre-Primary FEC Filing by the numbers:
Total raised: $294,854
Donations: 2,288
Small-dollar donations ($200 or less): 87.5%
Corporate PACs: $0

“With only two weeks left, I can’t help but reflect on what this campaign has accomplished over the past 11 months,” said NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones. “From raising well over a million dollars to building a grassroots campaign with thousands of volunteers and supporters, we have come a long way. This is how campaigns ought to be run: without a penny in corporate PAC money and without any personal wealth. I’ve said throughout this campaign that growing up in the Village of Spring Valley in Section 8 housing and on food stamps, I never thought someone like me could run for Congress. This campaign, with endorsements from progressive champions like Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, is changing that.”

“Having worked with Mondaire over the past eight months, I’ve watched this campaign grow from a people-powered campaign with local support to a grassroots movement with endorsements from national progressive leaders like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and AOC,” said Campaign Manager Charlie Blaettler. “During a global pandemic and racial unrest, it’s more clear than ever that we need more leaders like Mondaire in Congress. We need leaders who will always put working people first and personally understand the struggles of everyday people. This historic campaign has continued to build momentum from the start and with only two weeks to go, I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it.”

Mondaire Jones has also been endorsed by Sec. Julián Castro, Rep. Barbara Lee, Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep. Deb Haaland, Rep. Mark Pocan, Rep. David Cicilline, Equality PAC, Hispanic Democrats of Westchester, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Democracy for America, The LGBT Victory Fund, and The Collective PAC. He recently announced that his campaign had raised over $827,000 by the end of the first quarter of 2020. Unlike many of his opponents, Jones is not accepting corporate PAC money in his campaign and has also signed the No Fossil Fuel Pledge. When elected, Mondaire will make U.S. history as the first openly gay, black member of Congress.
