NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones Announces Over $1.1 Million Raised in Campaign

NYACK, NY — Mondaire Jones, Democratic candidate for New York’s 17th Congressional District (Rockland & Westchester Counties), today announced his campaign raised over $294,000 for the pre-primary FEC fundraising deadline, totalling over $1,121,000 raised in his campaign as of Wednesday, June 3rd. This total does not include the surge of contributions the campaign received after being endorsed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday, June 5th and Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday, June 9th. His campaign has also been endorsed by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Julián Castro, Representative Ayanna Pressley, Representative Pramila Jayapal, the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, Working Families Party, United Auto Workers, and numerous other progressive organizations and local elected leaders in Rockland and Westchester Counties.

“With only two weeks left, I can’t help but reflect on what this campaign has accomplished over the past 11 months,” said NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate Mondaire Jones. “From raising well over a million dollars to building a grassroots campaign with thousands of volunteers and supporters, we have come a long way. This is how campaigns ought to be run: without a penny in corporate PAC money and without any personal wealth. I’ve said throughout this campaign that growing up in the Village of Spring Valley in Section 8 housing and on food stamps, I never thought someone like me could run for Congress. This campaign, with endorsements from progressive champions like Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, is changing that.”

“Having worked with Mondaire over the past eight months, I’ve watched this campaign grow from a people-powered campaign with local support to a grassroots movement with endorsements from national progressive leaders like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and AOC,” said Campaign Manager Charlie Blaettler. “During a global pandemic and racial unrest, it’s more clear than ever that we need more leaders like Mondaire in Congress. We need leaders who will always put working people first and personally understand the struggles of everyday people. Mondaire Jones has also been endorsed by Sec. Julián Castro, Rep. Barbara Lee, Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep. Deb Haaland, Rep. Mark Pocan, Rep. David Cicilline, Equality PAC, Hispanic Democrats of Westchester, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Democracy for America, The LGBT Victory Fund, and The Collective PAC. He recently announced that his campaign had raised over $827,000 by the end of the first quarter of 2020. Unlike many of his opponents, Jones is not accepting corporate PAC money in his campaign and has also signed the No Fossil Fuel Pledge. When elected, Mondaire will make U.S. history as the first openly gay, black member of Congress.

Meet Darnett Davis, Candidate for Spring Valley Mayor

SPRING VALLEY, NY – Meet Darnett David, a proud mother of four children, a woman of faith and integrity, she is the Early Childhood Educator and Director of Kidsnett Child Care Program for the past 12 years and is running to be Mayor of the Village of Spring Valley.

Darnett was born and raised in Jamaica, she moved to the United States of America in 2004, where she became a citizen and promptly started to contribute to her community. She worked with various agencies in Rockland County and New York State, providing employment for our residents and child care for our families. Darnett holds a Child Development Associate (CDA) and some credits at Rockland Community College in Early Childhood Education.

Her qualifications in supervisory and small business management are from the University of West Indies Continuing Studies, Jamaica. She has also completed certifications in performance and conflict management from the Management Institute for National Development (MIND). While being employed to the Transport Authority of Jamaica as Chief Inspector. Darnett is an honoree for Spring Valley’s 2021 Women’s History Month. She has also sponsored the Spring Valley’s Kids Center and contributed to Helping Hands of Rockland.

Darnett is a member of the National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC) and Child Care Resources of Rockland (CCRR), Spring Valley Rotary, New Life Pentecostal Church, ERCSD Superintendent Community Circle, SVHS Principal Circle. She is now a Member of the Board of Trustees at the Finkelstein Memorial Library, working to ensure that the library remains a vital resource for the community, promoting literacy and lifelong learning.

She has been awarded as Woman of Distinction by the US Congressman Mike Lawler for outstanding dedication and service to community as propelled her to do more.
