Today’s commemoration keynote speaker was NYPD Chief James Secreto with Rockland County Undersheriff Robert Van Cura as the Master of Ceremony.

Thomas Gallagher, a NYPD detective raised in Rockland who attended Nanuet schools, died from cancer in March of 2018. His cancer is attributed to working in the debris resulting from the terrorist attacks that collapsed the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan on Sept. 11, 2001.

Gallagher’s name is chiseled among those of 28 officers from Rockland dating from 1905 who either worked in the county or for other police agencies. The most recent names are of officers who died of 9/11-related diseases.
