On Monday July 10, 2023, the Spring Hill Ambulance was dispatched to 1 Municipal Plaza in the Village of Spring Valley for a person struck by a train with unknown injuries. Spring Hill responded to the scene with 3 line officers, a crew, and 1 observer.

Upon arrival on scene, we learned that the patient was heavily pinned under the train, which required prolong extrication. A Spring Hill Captain requested Medevac helicopter due to the prolonged extrication, but due to the inclement weather, they were unable to fly. Spring Valley Fire Dept responded and assisted with patient extrication, which took approximately 45 minutes. Spring Hill EMTs worked along side FD and Rockland Paramedic Services Medic 25. They applied a tourniquet to the patient’s leg and assisted the patient with oxygen.

The patient was ultimately transported to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.

In a post on social media, the Spring Hill Ambulance Corps released the following statement ” We would like to thank our great partners Rockland Paramedic Services – Medic 25, Spring Valley NY FD “Hillhooks”, Pearl River Fire Department, Spring Valley PD, NYS State Police and MTA Police.”
