The United States Men’s National Team made an impressive start to its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, defeating Paraguay 4-1 on Friday night in front of a packed crowd at SoFi Stadium.

The victory gives the Americans an early advantage in Group D and provides momentum as they pursue a place in the tournament’s knockout stage.

The United States wasted little time applying pressure, taking the lead in the seventh minute when a Paraguay own goal put the hosts ahead. The Americans continued to control possession and create scoring opportunities throughout the first half.

Forward Folarin Balogun delivered a standout performance, scoring twice before halftime to extend the U.S. lead and energize the home crowd. Christian Pulisic also played a key role in the attack, helping orchestrate several dangerous chances and contributing to the team’s offensive success.

Paraguay managed to pull a goal back in the second half, briefly cutting into the deficit, but the Americans remained in control and added another goal to secure a convincing 4-1 victory.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino praised his squad’s intensity and composure after the match, as the United States demonstrated the attacking quality many supporters hoped to see entering the tournament.

The win places the United States in a strong position within Group D, which also includes Australia and Türkiye. With three points secured in its opening match, the Americans now turn their attention to a crucial matchup against Australia on June 19.

For U.S. soccer fans, the performance offered an encouraging glimpse of a team capable of making a deep run on home soil. The New York Knicks will look to take a commanding step toward a championship on Saturday night as they face the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at the Frost Bank Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time, with national coverage on ABC.

The Knicks enter Game 5 with momentum after a dramatic 107–106 victory in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden, a win that gave New York a 3–1 series lead and pushed the team within one victory of its first NBA title since 1973.

Despite the commanding series position, head coach Tom Thibodeau emphasized focus and discipline ahead of the road matchup, noting that closing out a Finals series away from home remains one of the most difficult challenges in professional sports.

The Spurs return home looking to extend the series and force a Game 6 in New York. San Antonio will rely on its young core and home-court advantage to try to slow down a Knicks team that has controlled key moments late in games throughout the series.

New York has been led throughout the Finals by strong performances on both ends of the floor, including clutch scoring in late-game situations and a defense that has repeatedly disrupted San Antonio’s offensive rhythm.

A win on Saturday would give the Knicks their first NBA championship in more than five decades and mark one of the most significant seasons in franchise history. A Spurs victory, however, would shift momentum back to San Antonio and send the series back to Madison Square Garden for Game 6.

With the championship within reach, all eyes will be on Texas as Game 5 could prove to be the defining moment of the series.
