Last week during the “No Empty Chair” campaign school Resource Officers (SROs) from Ramapo and Suffern High Schools engaged with students to discuss the serious risks of underage drinking, distracted driving, and impaired driving. The County of Rockland is proud to once again participate in the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters from April 27th through May 4th. The annual event honors the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

As part of this nationwide tribute, the Allison-Parris County Office Building in New City and Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona will be illuminated in red.

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities,” said County Executive Ed Day.“As a former first responder, lighting up our buildings red is a small but powerful way to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to show our unwavering support for their families.”

Rockland County Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear added, “the Light the Night tribute is a solemn reminder of the risk’s firefighters take and the heroes we have lost. We stand with the families of the fallen and reaffirm our commitment to supporting all first responders.”

Residents are encouraged to participate by lighting their homes in red and joining in the national remembrance.
