At 4:52am on June 7, 2024, Ramapo PD officers responded to Helen Ct in the Hillerest area of the Town of Ramapo for multiple reports of a male yelling and breaking glass outside of a house. Responding officers located a 44-year-old male, Ovidio Aguilar-Oliva, outside of the reported address fitting the description given by all callers. The front door of the home had been kicked in and a side window of the same home was smashed. Aguilar-Oliva appeared to be intoxicated and was bleeding from a small laceration he sustained while attempting to gain entry to the home.
When officers approached Aguilar-Oliva, he became combative and began to fight with the officers who were attempting to investigate. During the altercation, two officers sustained injuries, one being a dislocated shoulder and were evaluated at Good Samaritan Hospital. The only injury to Aguilar-Oliva was the laceration he caused to himself prior to police arriving on scene. It was subsequently learned that Aguilar-Oliva stays at the home, which he does not own, but was too intoxicated to unlock the door so he attempted to enter by smashing in the door, scaring the other residents of the home as well as numerous neighbors.
Aguilar-Oliva was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, a D Felony; Criminal Mischief 3rd, an E Felony; Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd an A Misdemeanor; and Resisting Arrest, an A Misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court and bail was set at $50,000 and he was transported to Rockland County Jail until a future court appearance.
It should be noted that a criminal complaint in merely an accusation and that a defendant is
presumed innocent until proven guilty.
