The Clarkstown Police Department Proudly Congratulates Detective Brian Michel On His Retirement

Detective Brian Michel began his career with the NYPD in 1993, serving in the 48 Pct., BXTF, and finally as a Sergeant in the 32nd Precinct. In 2002, he joined the Clarkstown Police Department, where he quickly became a valued member of our department.
Throughout his career, Detective Michel has held several key positions, including serving on the Clarkstown Police Department Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), as the department’s sketch artist, and as a member of the Honor Guard, where he proudly represented the department. In 2014, Brian was promoted to detective and took on a role in the Crime Scene Unit, where his attention to detail was key in assisting in complex investigations. Most recently, in 2023, he was assigned to the DEA Task Force, where he remained dedicated to enhancing public safety and making communities safer for all.
Thank you for your years of service and commitment to protecting and serving the people of Clarkstown.

Tragedy in Orange County: A 50-year-old dad and his two young sons die in house fire

ORANGE COUNTY, NY – Tragedy in Orange County: A 50-year-old dad and his two young sons died in a house fire on Saturday night on Pulaski Highway in Goshen, located in Orange County, NY.

Both sons were nonverbal and had autism, according to News 12.

State police said emergency crews arrived at the fire just after 8 p.m. and found the home completely engulfed in flames. One neighbor said he saw about 30 trucks that were filled with responders.

Our deepest condolences to family and friends of the deceased and please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Haverstraw Police Detective Michael Cruger Retires After 30 Years of Law Enforcement Service

HAVERSTRAW, NY — The Haverstraw Police Department proudly honored Detective Michael Cruger, who is retiring after a distinguished 20-year career with the department and an impressive 30 years of total service in law enforcement.

Detective Cruger has earned admiration and respect for his exceptional investigative work, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the safety of the Haverstraw community. He is known for his mentorship and leadership, Cruger played a pivotal role in training and guiding new investigators throughout his career.

Before joining the department, Cruger served for a decade as a Correctional Officer at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, where he was also a member of the elite Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT). In 2005, he transitioned to the Haverstraw Police Department, where he began as a patrol officer and later served as a Field Training Officer—demonstrating excellence and a commitment to fostering the next generation of officers.

In 2013, he was promoted to Detective, leading numerous high-profile investigations and becoming a trusted figure in the community. His reputation for being meticulous, ethical, and compassionate earned him the respect of both colleagues and residents alike.

As Detective Cruger embarks on a well-earned retirement, the Town of Haverstraw and the entire Rockland County community extend their deepest gratitude for his service and wish him continued success in the next chapter of his life.
