State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on NYS Thruway Near Exit 12 in Rockland County

Clarkstown, NY – The New York State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning on the New York State Thruway (I-87) near Exit 12 in Clarkstown, Rockland County.

The crash, reported at approximately 3:13 a.m. on June 21, 2025, involved a passenger vehicle and two tractor-trailers. Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the passenger vehicle died at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification.

As a result of the collision, all southbound lanes of the Thruway are currently closed at Exit 14, with detours in place. Emergency crews and investigators remain on the scene.

Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area. The cause of the crash is under active investigation.

Clarkstown Police Department Public Safety Alert

Clarkstown Police are currently on scene at an active structure fire located at 350 Fulle Drive. The Valley Cottage Fire Department, along with several mutual aid companies, is actively operating at the scene.

Fulle Drive is closed in both directions as fire operations continue.
At this time, no injuries have been reported.

We urge the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Haverstraw Police and Local Fire Departments to Conduct Train Derailment Drill on June 22nd

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, the West Haverstraw, Haverstraw, and Thiells Fire Departments will conduct a Train Derailment Exercise across various locations in the Villages of West Haverstraw and Haverstraw.

The drill will involve fire apparatus, emergency services personnel, and drones operating in the following areas:

  • West Haverstraw: Delloro St., Joseph St., Key Bank on Route 9W, and Pecks Pond

  • Haverstraw: Robbins Ct. and the Train Trestle/Minisceongo Creek areas

Important Information:

  • Delloro St. at Joseph St. will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

  • Drones will be flying over the drill sites as part of the exercise

  • Water pressure may be temporarily reduced, and discolored water could occur due to fire hydrant usage during and shortly after the drill

Officials stress that this is only a training exercise and not an actual emergency. Residents are advised to use caution in the affected areas and expect increased emergency vehicle activity.
