Haverstraw Police Department Arrests Wanted Man After Foot Chase and Firearm Recovery

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM, officers from the Haverstraw Police Department observed 19-year-old Miciaih Cozart, a resident of Haverstraw, in the downtown business district of the Village of Haverstraw. Cozart was known to have multiple active warrants for his arrest.

When officers attempted to stop him on the sidewalk, Cozart fled on foot. During the ensuing foot pursuit, he attempted to discard a loaded firearm into a nearby park on Main Street. Officers were able to apprehend Cozart and successfully recover the discarded weapon.

Cozart was taken into custody and transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for processing. He was later arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or a partially secured bond.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Cozart now faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (Loaded Firearm) – Class C Felony

  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm – Class E Felony

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property: Firearm – Class E Felony

  • Resisting Arrest – Class A Misdemeanor

It is important to note that all charges are merely accusations at this stage. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Spring Valley Double Murder Arrest: Two Charged in 2025 Dutch Lane Shooting

On September 20, 2025, around 5:12 PM, officers from the Spring Valley Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near 2 Dutch Lane. They found a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound and began CPR until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After several months of investigation, on April 16, 2026, police arrested two suspects:

  • Doodly Metellus, 21, of Ramapo
  • Smay Dornaison, 20, of Spring Valley

Metellus was found with a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest. He faces charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Dornaison is also charged with second-degree murder.

Both were arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court and are being held at the Rockland County Jail.

Haverstraw Police Recover Stolen Packages in Ongoing Theft Investigation

The Haverstraw Police Department is actively investigating a series of package thefts reported across multiple buildings within a residential complex in the Village of Haverstraw.

Through the course of the investigation, officers identified a suspect and a residence believed to be connected to the thefts. On April 10, 2026, Haverstraw Police executed a search warrant at the location, where they recovered multiple stolen packages belonging to residents of the complex.

The suspect has been identified as a 35-year-old male from Haverstraw, New York. His name is being withheld at this time, as charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Haverstraw Police Department was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office in the execution of the warrant.
