Rockland County Legislature Honors Haverstraw Girls’ & Boys’ Little League Champs

NEW CITY, NY – At the last Rockland County Legislature meeting, the Haverstaw Girls’ & Boys’ Little League teams were honored for their outstanding accomplishments during a ceremony in the Legislative Chambers.

The 2019 Haverstraw/Nanuet Little League Junior Softball Girls’ Team won the District 18 Championship, the Section 3 North Championship, the New York State title, and the Eastern Regional Championship before finishing sixth place in the Junior Little League Softball World Series.

The 2019 Haverstraw Little League 12-year-old All-Stars won the District 18 Championship, the Section 3 North Championship, and the New York State title before finishing as runners-up in the Little League World Series’ Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

For both Haverstraw legislators – Grant and Hood, the teams’ experiences were personal. Legislator Grant’s daughter played on three Haverstraw teams that competed in the New York State championships, while one of Legislator Hood’s sons played in the league this year, as he did in his youth.

“The connections to Haverstraw Little League are so strong for me, growing up in Haverstraw and playing in the league,” Legislator Hood said. “I was definitely not an all-star. It was so impressive to see your skills on the field and how far both teams went. It’s hard to put into words how proud we are of you.”
