Buffalo Soldier Award Ceremony New City, NY February 14th

New City, NY, – February 14th, Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Director Susan Branam of the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency will recognize the outstanding service of two local military heroes.

The Buffalo Soldiers Award is presented annually to outstanding African American veterans who reside in Rockland County. A “Buffalo Soldier” is the nickname first given to members of African American cavalry regiments of the U.S. Army who served in the western United States from 1867 to 1896, noted for their courage and discipline.

Miss New York and Miss New York’s Teen Competition Coming to Rockland County June 25–27

Rockland County will host the Miss New York and Miss New York’s Teen Competition from June 25–27, welcoming more than 50 contestants from across New York State for a multi-day event celebrating talent, scholarship, and community engagement.

The competition will take place at the Rockland Community College (RCC) Cultural Arts Theater, with ticketed events scheduled each evening.

“We are proud to welcome the Miss New York and Miss New York’s Teen Competition to Rockland County. This event showcases our vibrant community and the best of what our region has to offer,” said County Executive Ed Day.

Rockland Community College President Dr. William P. Mullaney noted the significance of hosting the statewide competition at RCC.

“Rockland Community College is proud to host the Miss New York Pageant at the Cultural Arts Theater, an event that celebrates the talent, dedication, and ambition of its participants while showcasing the versatility of our venue,” Mullaney said.

Economic Development Director Jenna Nazario highlighted the event’s local impact.

“Hosting Miss New York in Rockland is a great opportunity to highlight our small businesses, culture, and the RCC Cultural Arts Theater, while showcasing the pride and energy of our community,” Nazario said.

The Miss New York Scholarship Organization praised the partnership and local support, emphasizing the experience for contestants and visitors alike.

Beyond the stage, participants will engage in local activities highlighting Rockland County’s culture, small businesses, and attractions, bringing additional visitors and visibility to the region.
