Chief Mary Barbera Makes History as Rockland County’s First Female Chief

Chief Barbera began her career with the Sheriff’s Department in April 1985, when she was appointed Deputy Sheriff in the Civil Enforcement Division, following the first civil service exam for that position. She was promoted to Senior Deputy in March 1992, and then to Chief of the Civil Enforcement Division in February 1996.

Chief Barbera holds the distinction of being the first woman in Rockland County to achieve the rank of Chief within both the Sheriff’s Department and county law enforcement as a whole.

A Pearl River High School graduate, Chief Barbera earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Today, she continues to serve as the highest-ranking female in Rockland County law enforcement. Please join us in congratulating and thanking Chief Mary Barbera for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and decades of service to our community!

Congratulations to the 53rd Graduating Class of the Ramapo Police Youth Academy!

Tonight’s ceremony marked the culmination of weeks of hard work, discipline, teamwork, and dedication. Watching the cadets march onto the field was a proud moment for all involved and a true reflection of the commitment they demonstrated throughout the academy.

A special thank you to the Ramapo Town Board for their continued support of this program, as well as the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Spring Hill Ambulance Corps for their participation in making this program such a success. Your partnership helps provide these young men and women with an unforgettable experience and valuable life lessons.
