Clarkstown Awarded Nearly $1.6 Million for Nanuet TOD Sidewalk Improvements

Published

on

The Town of Clarkstown has been awarded a $1,590,933 grant to fund sidewalk construction and replacement within the Nanuet Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) zone, town officials announced. The funding comes through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Climate Smart Communities program.

The project will connect the Nanuet TOD zone with nearby neighborhoods along Church Street and Prospect Street, extending sidewalks to the Nanuet Public Library. The improvements are designed to enhance pedestrian safety and provide walkable access to schools, residential areas, local businesses, and the Nanuet train station, benefiting an estimated 2,500 households.

“This nearly $1.6 million grant will connect over 2,500 residential homes directly to the Nanuet TOD zone and create a safer, more connected sidewalk network for our community,” said Town Supervisor George Hoehmann, who thanked the DEC, town staff, and community members for their support.

Councilman Don Franchino said the investment will strengthen the TOD zone and improve critical pedestrian connections throughout Nanuet, adding that the town remains committed to infrastructure improvements that enhance quality of life.

Report Litterbugs in Rockland County Through Keep Rockland Beautiful Program

Published

on

Littering is illegal and can result in fines for those who commit the offense. Some litterbugs simply need to be informed and reminded that littering — whether deliberate or unintentional — can end with a personal commitment to stop.

The Keep Rockland Beautiful Report-A-Litterbug Program encourages the public to report people who litter in an effort to help make Rockland County’s roadways cleaner. The program provides every individual with an opportunity to be an active participant in reducing litter.

If you see someone littering from their car, or trash blowing out from the back of a truck, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office will send the vehicle owner a warning letter based on your report to Keep Rockland Beautiful.
