Clarkstown Awarded $315K USDOT Grant for Traffic Safety Plan

Published

on

Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann and Congressman Mike Lawler announced that the Town of Clarkstown has secured $315,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program to conduct its first comprehensive townwide traffic safety study.

The grant will fund the development of a Safety Action Plan aimed at identifying high-priority crash locations and recommending short-, medium-, and long-term safety improvements. The study will analyze crash data, map traffic patterns, and assess roadway conditions using evidence-based methods.

Community engagement will be a key component, with workshops planned in all four council wards, stakeholder advisory committees, and surveys distributed to residents and businesses. The findings will help the Planning and Traffic Board establish a points-based system to prioritize traffic safety projects, from improved signage to infrastructure upgrades.

“Ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors who drive on Clarkstown roads is a top priority,” Hoehmann said, noting the importance of federal support in launching the town’s first comprehensive safety plan.

Lawler said the funding will enable Clarkstown to take a data-driven approach to improving traffic and pedestrian safety, enhancing quality of life throughout Rockland County.

Report Litterbugs in Rockland County Through Keep Rockland Beautiful Program

Published

on

Littering is illegal and can result in fines for those who commit the offense. Some litterbugs simply need to be informed and reminded that littering — whether deliberate or unintentional — can end with a personal commitment to stop.

The Keep Rockland Beautiful Report-A-Litterbug Program encourages the public to report people who litter in an effort to help make Rockland County’s roadways cleaner. The program provides every individual with an opportunity to be an active participant in reducing litter.

If you see someone littering from their car, or trash blowing out from the back of a truck, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office will send the vehicle owner a warning letter based on your report to Keep Rockland Beautiful.
