The nonprofit animal rescue organization Care About The Strays is asking the community to donate their New York State 5¢ deposit bottles and cans to help support the care of rescued animals.
Through this simple recycling effort, local residents can make a direct impact. Each returned bottle or can provides a small refund, but when combined, those deposits help the organization cover important expenses such as food, veterinary care, and medical treatments for animals in need.
What You Can Donate
Care About The Strays is collecting:
-
Empty water bottles
-
Soda bottles
-
Beer cans
Plastic bottles and cans can be mixed together in the same bags, making it easy for donors to gather and drop off their recyclables.
Important Donation Guidelines
To ensure the bottles and cans can be redeemed:
-
Bottles and cans do not need to be rinsed, but they should be empty.
-
Only New York State deposit containers can be accepted.
-
New Jersey bottles cannot be redeemed in New York.
-
Iced tea bottles are not accepted because they are non-refundable under the deposit program.
Small Change, Big Impact
While each bottle or can is worth just five cents, the donations quickly add up. These funds help Care About The Strays continue its mission of rescuing, feeding, and providing medical care for animals while working to find them safe and loving homes.
Community members who save their deposit bottles and cans are not only helping the environment through recycling—they are also helping give vulnerable animals a second chance.
For animal lovers and environmentally conscious residents alike, donating deposit bottles and cans is an easy way to turn everyday recycling into meaningful support for local animal rescue efforts.
