Haverstraw Man Arrested on Warrants; Loaded Firearm Recovered

Haverstraw, NY – Haverstraw Police arrested 32-year-old Daquan Kelly after locating him inside a local business during a routine patrol at approximately 10:56 PM. Officers confirmed Kelly had two active warrants for his arrest.

Upon taking him into custody, officers discovered a loaded .380 caliber firearm in his possession. During attempts to secure him in a patrol vehicle, Kelly became combative and resisted arrest.

He is now facing the following charges:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon – 2nd Degree (Class C Felony)

  • Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)

  • Obstruction of Governmental Administration – 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)

Kelly was arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility.

The Haverstraw Police Department acknowledged assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office BCI in the arrest.

All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ramapo Police Arrest Suspect in Tire-Iron Assault After Road-Rage Incident

Ramapo Police officers responded to an assault Tuesday in the parking lot of 5 North Airmont Road, where a road-rage confrontation escalated into violence. According to police, a 30-year-old Spring Valley man struck a 29-year-old West Nyack man with a tire iron during the dispute.

The victim suffered injuries to his ribs, knee, elbow, and hip. Officers located and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident and recovered the tire iron believed to have been used in the assault.

The suspect was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a felony, and is currently awaiting arraignment.

Rockland Sheriff Warns of Jury Duty Phone Scam Demanding $4,500

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents in both Rockland and Orange counties about a phone scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers and demand money for fake warrants.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, multiple residents have reported receiving calls from scammers claiming to be deputies from the agency. The callers falsely state that the recipient has an active warrant for missing jury duty and must pay $4,500 to resolve it. Officials emphasized that the scheme is entirely fraudulent.

Authorities remind the public that the Sheriff’s Office does not call residents to demand payments, personal information, or monetary transfers related to warrants, jury duty, or any law enforcement matter.

Residents who receive such calls are urged not to engage with the scammers and to hang up immediately.
