National Wear Red Day Focuses On Women’s Heart Health Friday February 7th

                  ‘National Wear Red Day’ is organized by the American Heart Association.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, killing one person every 33 seconds. Cardiovascular disease is the leading health threat for women. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, according to the CDC. Everyone is encouraged to wear red Friday to bring awareness to this and potentially help save lives. According to the Old Farmers Almanac, this holiday which is celebrated on February 2nd every year originated with German immigrants living in Pennsylvania during the 19th century. Although it also has some roots in Celtic customs. 

The groundhog is know as Punxsutawney Phil because of where the tradition began, Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. According to the Almanac Punxsutawney was considered the “weather capital of the world”. A big celebration is still held there to this date. 

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts that Punxsutawney Phil will not see his shadow this year, which of course means an early spring for everyone. If he see’s his shadow 6 more weeks of winter. Safe to say most of us are hoping he does not see his shadow.
