NYS DOT Installing “Ramp Meters” Along I-87/287

As part of the Lower Hudson Transit Link (LHTL) program, the New York State Department of Transportation recently installed three ramp meters at Westchester County access ramps and plans to install ten more in Rockland County over the next two years along the I-87/287 corridor.

Ramp metering is a system used to manage congestion on the highway by regulating vehicle flow from local access entrance ramps. In addition to managing highway flow, the system monitors how many vehicles are on an entrance ramp to prevent vehicle queues from extending back onto local roadways.

Ramp meters are part of the overall strategy to facilitate the Hudson Link transit service and reduce travel times.

This program helps reduce misunderstandings, lowers anxiety, and fosters a more empathetic and safer environment for everyone. 💙
How to Get a Blue Envelope:
Reach out to autism advocacy organizations in your area or your local sheriff’s office to obtain one. Together, we can promote understanding and safety on the road!
