Ramapo Police Officer Stops Reckless Moped Rider, Faces Multiple Violations

Frustrated by mopeds and e-bikes weaving through traffic like the rules don’t apply? You’re not alone.

This morning, a Ramapo officer observed a Honda ADV150 moped dangerously cutting off vehicles and weaving between lanes on Airmont Road near North DeBaun Avenue. The 25-year-old operator had no license plates and couldn’t provide proof of insurance. The vehicle was immediately towed, and multiple summonses were issued.

But tickets are just the beginning. True accountability happens in court. This case is now before the  Village of Airmont Justice Court.

Heroic Rescue: Firefighters and EMS Revive Cat with CPR After Spring Valley House Fire

Spring Valley, NY — A dramatic scene unfolded on Thursday, June 19th at 5 John Street in the Village of Spring Valley, where firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to a structure fire and went above and beyond to save every life — including a young cat.

Upon arrival, Spring Valley Fire Department crews encountered heavy smoke conditions and quickly made entry into the home. Amid the smoke, a Fire Chief from Spring Valley FD was photographed carrying a cat to safety from the smoke-filled structure.

In a heartwarming act of compassion and skill, the firefighters — with assistance from Spring Hill EMS — immediately administered CPR to the unresponsive cat on the scene. Thanks to their quick action and determination, the cat was revived and is now safe and recovering.

Photos of the rescue, captured by Rockland Buff, show the heroic teamwork and commitment of the first responders who not only battled the flames but also preserved a cherished member of the family.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No human injuries were reported.

This incident is a powerful reminder of the dedication and bravery displayed every day by Rockland County’s firefighters and EMS teams.

Ramapo Police Department Expands K9 Unit in Ongoing Fight Against Illegal Narcotics

In June 1971, President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse “public enemy number one,” officially launching what would become known as the War on Drugs. More than 50 years later, the threat of dangerous and illegal narcotics continues to impact lives across the nation and right here in our own community.
At the Ramapo Police Department, we remain fully engaged in that fight. While public policy has evolved and certain substances have been legalized, the dangers associated with drug use and illegal narcotics remain very real, especially with the rise in opioid abuse and the threat of substances like fentanyl.
To support our mission, we are currently in the process of replacing our recently retired K9 Remi with a new narcotics detection K9. When that replacement is complete, thanks to Michael Specht Town of Ramapo Supervisor, the Town of Ramapo Board, and Chief of Staff Montal, Ramapo PD will once again have a full complement of three patrol K9 teams: two trained in explosives detection, and one specializing in narcotics detection.
Police K9s are an invaluable asset in keeping the public safe. These specially trained dogs help us detect hidden drugs, support search operations, assist with high-risk incidents, and ultimately serve as a critical tool in both crime prevention and public safety.
The War on Drugs is not just history, it’s an ongoing effort. And it takes a partnership between police and the public to keep our neighborhoods safe.
