Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Held a Senior Scam Presentation At Atria New City

Chief Assistant District Attorney Patrick Frawley, Executive Assistant District Attorney Nabeela McLeod, and Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Santangelo had the opportunity to meet with seniors from Atria in New City to discuss how to identify a scam call, the most recent scams that are targeting senior citizens, and the best ways to protect yourself and loved ones from scams.
This is an ongoing initiative for District Attorney Tom Walsh and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, and we will continue to attend and host these informative presentations across Rockland County.

$1.8 million in Grant Funding for Rockland County Law Enforcement Technology

Senator Bill Weber announced $1.8 million of Law Enforcement Technology (LETECH) Grants for Rockland County law enforcement. The grants were funded by this year’s Capital Projects budget (S.8304D) which passed with Senator Weber’s support.  

The grants were awarded to: 

Clarkstown Police Department ( $807,588)

Haverstraw Police Department ( $185,000) 

Orangetown Police Department ( $100,000) 

Ramapo Police Department ( $177,000) 

Rockland County Sheriff’s Office ($180,000)

Village of Piermont Police Department ($168,000)

Village of Spring Valley Police Department ( $131,405)

Village of Suffern Police Department ( $74,500) 

These grants will fund the purchase of new technology and equipment to better assist law enforcement both in preventing and solving crime.

People Older Than 60 Years Of Age Are At Increased Risk Of Scams

People older than 60 years of age lost more money in scams in 2023 than the previous year — an 11% increase totaling $3.4 billion overall, according to a new report released by the FBI.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Patrick Frawley, Executive Assistant District Attorney Nabeela McLeod, and Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Santangelo were in West Nyack today to speak with members of a senior club about scams targeting senior citizens. We had an informative conversation focusing on how to recognize and avoid scams. By staying informed of the latest scams we better protect our seniors from being scammed.
